Each year, because of their age, we at Camp Kodiak reluctantly and sadly say “good-bye” to a number of our campers. Almost always, that reluctance and sadness is mutual. For most of our campers, camp is the highlight of their year. It is where they have friends, where they feel successful and where they truly feel like part of the group. Typically, our campers make great strides in the safe and nurturing environment that we provide. Unfortunately, when they leave, there was no next step; there are no similar programs for young adults.
Well, all of that changed in 2007 when Club Kodiak was established.
Club Kodiak provides a safe and structured environment tailored to meet the needs of young adults aged 19+. Club Kodiak is not a children's summer camp. We are a cottage resort for young adults. We offer our guests many of the same activities they enjoyed at Camp Kodiak,, but in an adult resort environment. There are more choices, less obvious supervision, more freedom and an integrated life-skills program. Counsellors have been replaced with advisors who are there to assist our guests. Guests select most of their own activities and there are several interesting off-site excursions to a variety of local attractions.
Our guests attend workshops on nutrition, meal planning and cooking. Then, with the assistance of their advisors, they plan, shop for, and prepare their own meals. They are also responsible for doing the dishes, keeping their cottage clean and doing their own laundry."
The first period each day is devoted to the teaching of life skills. Each week, guests sign up for a series of
workshops of their choice. The instruction is
hands-on, informal and fun. The selection
includes:
• nutrition & meal planning
• cooking
• fitness
• resume writing
• job search & interview skills
• home maintenance & repair
• cosmetology
• 24/7 supervision
• 3-to-1 ratio
• mature,
professional staff
• life skills program
• over 30 sports & activities
